We empower everyone at our sites with the authority to intervene and halt work if any unsafe conditions or practices are identified, thereby promoting a culture of Stop Work Authority (SWA). In general, the SWA process takes a stop, notify, correct, and resume approach to resolve a perceived unsafe work action or condition. We regularly conduct “Mock Drills” with Top -Down and Bottom – Up approaches at worksites to check the willingness of Workers to intervene when they see something “wrong” for safety, and to remind them about the authority and responsibility bestowed upon them by the organization.
We also recognize and reward individuals for efficient implementation of SWA and exemplary HSE performance. This is done to encourage and acknowledge individuals who stop and report outstanding HSE observations (Unsafe Acts / Unsafe Conditions) by which they demonstrate exceptional vigilance and contribute towards improved safety practices. We award such individuals every month with the title of “Monthly HSE Leader” for the specific month.
